She completed her Residency in Low Vision Rehabilitation in June 2018 at the University ofIncamate Word, Rosenberg School of Optometry. We are very excited to add her expertise in both Optometry and Low Vision Rehabilitation to our list of services at Granbury Eye Clinic.

New services available to give our patients greater access to eye health care.

Low vision can be defined as any type of visual impairment that interferes with daily

living activities. This type of vision loss cannot be corrected for with traditional glasses

or contact lenses, medications, or surgery. Many eye conditions can cause low vision,

including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, amblyopia and

glaucoma. Low vision makes it difficult to enjoy everyday things such as reading,

recognizing people, viewing photos, and can make simple chores such as writing checks,

and reading medication instructions extremely difficult and frustrating. Even in early

stages of disease processes, may patients may find these simple tasks becoming difficult,

and they too, can benefit from a low vision evaluation.

Dr. Sorrell will perform an evaluation to address the patient's visual goals and needs.

The examination involves evaluation of the level of vision remaining and determining

how to maximize remaining vision by evaluating prescriptive visual aids with the

patient. These aids may include optical microscopes, magnifiers, telescopes, filters or

tints, or other devices that improve a low vision patient's visual performance.

When Dr. Sorrell is not seeing patients for Low Vision Rehabilitation, she will perform routine eye examinations, contact lens fittings, and cataract surgery follow up visits. She will work with Dr. Mueller to care for patients with such disease processes as glaucoma and macular degeneration as well. We are very happy to be able to add new services to our practice as well as to give our patients greater access to eye health care.
